Cycling in the Rain

Watching the rain come down has got me thinking about cycling in the wet. The right outfit including a good pair of cycling shorts help us ride in all weather. Even the most sunny days can have the unexpected shower. I carry a light weight rain jacket in my back pocket, which I stop to put on if the shower looks like it will last more than a few minutes. I have yet to master the art of riding along a putting on or taking off clothing.

Bike handling is different in the wet and water covers up pot holes, makes road paint and drain covers slippery. As, always look ahead to see any hazard and try to avoid them if possible. Cycling 1 meter distance from the kerb will help as it allows movement either way. Riding in the gutter you can only pull down and that can’t be done if there is traffic on you right shoulder. If the bike does start to slip try and relax and the bike move under you, the bike fundamental wants to roll and stay up right.

The same principles apply to hitting mud or gravel.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD, JUST SO LONG AS YOU ENJOY YOURSELF!
